Denture care

Your dentures have been fabricated using high quality materials and it is extremely important that you provide them proper care to get the best service from them. Simply immersing your denture in a cleaning solution is inadequate for removing the micro-organisms that live in plaque. You must brush your denture everyday. Dentures should be brushed inside and outside daily with a soft, large nylon denture toothbrush with round-ended bristles. Use denture creams instead of toothpastes, which are too abrasive and will scratch your dentures. After brushing thoroughly, rinse the denture under cold running water. In addition, clean the tongue and palate with a soft brush. Complete dentures may be immersed in a commercial denture cleaning solution.

For added protection and comfort rinse your denture and your mouth with water after every meal.

Unless your dental professional has instructed otherwise, you should not wear your denture overnight. Taking your dentures out every night enables the tissue supporting the denture time to recover.

Did you know?

You should keep your denture in water when you are not wearing it. Dentures can change shape if they dry out.

Never clean your denture with hot or boiling water which can distort them.

Do not use detergents or dish washing agents.

Do not immerse your denture in pure alcohol or bleach (or any solvent) or clean it with substances of this kind.

Brush your teeth over a sink filled with cold water to avoid accidental breakage from denture hitting the sink.
